I really enjoyed this book with three short stories in it. Now I am all ready to read Dorothy Must Die.

I'm just not into it. There's too many books/novellas/whatevers for this world, and I don't even like the original series all that much.

Since this is three stories in one volume, I'm going to rate and review each one separately.

No Place Like Oz - 5/5 Stars

This is really brilliant. Now I can finally see why Dorothy turned evil, and I can see it from her perspective. Of course, I still think she's awful, but I feel enlightened to what happened. The story was a good length to get a full background without it being too short or too long. I also really enjoyed Auntie Em and Uncle Henry as super interesting characters; that's the great thing about books that revisit old stories, we get to see more about the background characters.

The Witch Must Burn - 3/5 Stars

I found the background on Jellia kind of interesting, but really as soon as other characters were introduced toward the end, I wanted to know more about them instead. I kind of feel like Jellia isn't an important enough character to spend so much time on. I also think it was far too short and ended too abruptly to get anything meaningful out of her background.

The Wizard Returns - 1.5/5 Stars

I'm not entirely sure why I didn't like this that much. It might be because the Wizard was really annoying, or because it was too short to really learn anything interesting, or because I find the monkeys annoying as well. I can't place it, but I found myself speeding through this last story just to finish the volume. There was pretty much no character development and in general, the characters were pretty flat.

Overall, if I could I would rate this 3.5 stars. I really, really loved the first story. The other two just fell flat for me. However, I still adore the Dorothy Must Die series and I'm excited to read the other two short story volumes!

This is a series of 3 books (prequels) to Dorothy Must Die. These are great. I really enjoyed the novellas as it gives a clear background to why and how our beloved characters from the Wizard of Oz turned bad.

Boy am I glad this bind-up exists!

No Place Like Oz review:

Wow. Dorothy is nuts.

When I saw this out of the corner of my eye (I actually have a bind-up of all three novellas but for some reason Goodreads insists its not out yet. Oh well) I knew I had to buy it. Sure, people seem to be angry at Paige, but that's not going to stop me form reading her work. After all, Dorothy Must Die is probably one of my most favorite books of all time.

I guess I wanted a teensie bit more out of this novella as of back-story and how Dorothy went crazy, but I devoured it and the writing was beautiful and captivating so I'm not going to complain.

In the beginning I kind of felt bad for her, which was no short of unsettling, considering Miss Gale is one of the most terrifying villains I've ever come across.

First of all, the sheer audacity of just how insane Dorothy is is mind blowing in itself, and though There's No Place Like Oz didn't play on that as much as it could, I did enjoy reading from Dorothy's point of view and seeing how she was before. I wish that there was more though. I mean, there really wasn't anything that came into play that was really important except for what happened at the end, and a few little, "Glinda might have made Dorothy the way she is because she's the real villain of the story" and "Something is fishy with Ozma," and that's pretty much it.

If you loved Dorothy Must Die and you're craving some more before reading the Wicked Will Rise, There's No Place Like Oz is certainly the perfect remedy.

The Witch Must Burn review:

Soooo, I didn't have as many thoughts on this one as I did with the first one, but I do have to say that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would! At first I was like, "Jellia? Really?"

But I grew to like/tolerate her POV I guess because she wasn't an awful character.

And besides, NOX!!

ASDFGHJKL;

When I saw his name pop up I was like HOLY SHIT because damn I love that boy. I liked how everything was woven together, it was pretty clever.

The Wizard Returns review:

DNF on this one.

To be honest I had no intent on reading about him gallivant across Oz with Pete and a monkey in the first place.

Overall, highly recommend picking this one up! Sure, you can buy them all as e-books but I personally enjoyed having them all together in a single book because I really hate e-books.

The background these stories provide is interesting to say the least, but I didn't enjoy them as much as the main series.

This was the first three prequel novels to the Dorothy Must Die series. These focus on Dorothy, Jellia, and the Wizard. The story about Jellia was the most interesting to me since we never met her in the full series. It was sad to see sweet Dorothy turn into the woman we meet in the beginning of the series. I enjoyed these storylines and listening to it was very nice.
