Provides an interesting portrayal of gender nonconformity (or perhaps a trans/nonbinary experience) in a way that feels very much in the period. While it's unclear what gender Robin would identify as today, seeing as there was no language to understand or express a difference between assigned sex and gender, this lack of clarity or concrete explanation if anything makes it feel more genuine.

I usually pull out Cat Sebastian for something light and fun during exams or some other stressful time. And this was fun! But this one fell short, the class politics were a bit weird, I think the author thought they were better than they were. The main conflict between the protags is never resolved, they just get over it

Also I thought this would be t4t bc I didn't know Marquess was a masculine title 🙈 not the books fault for letting me down when really I'm just a dumbass

Not the Cat Sebastian book I should've started with but overall, still a pleasant reading experience. The writing, characters, and dialogue are all very good (some very funny, other bits touching/sweet) but the drama and romance were kinda iffy in places. Enjoyed having a non-binary character as one of the leads, enjoyed having a bisexual character as the other.

Their development was nice if kinda messy (sometimes too fast, sometimes too slow or not enough) and for some reason it was ridiculously hard to get into it for the first few chapters. I don't know why, pretty sure it's just a Me problem.

All in all, I feel safe in saying these are books to be read at your leisure and to be savored, not sped through (like I kinda did with this one because it's due back lol).
