Scheduled to publish to my blog at release: Nonstop Reader.

Blueberry Love is a beautifully presented collection of recipes developed and collected by Cynthia Graubart. Due out 27th April 2021 from Storey, it's 104 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

I really love blueberries. Second to strawberries, they're my favorite fruit (sorry). I love them in everything, and honestly there are some dishes which they give a star turn, such as blueberry muffins, cheesecakes, and in smoothies. I am also a keen gardener and the last few years have seen me expanding my blueberry bushes by propagating my bushes and getting starts from my gardening friends. That means the months between the middle of August to October are full of wonderful tart sweet healthy blueberries around here. Normally I make a lot of jam, but this cookbook came at exactly the perfect time for me.

An introduction contains lots of logical tips for handling and cooking with blueberries as well as kitchen notes and some comments on ingredients and pantry choices for best results. The recipes themselves are arranged roughly thematically in chapters: Breakfast, Salads & Sides, Lunch & Dinner, and Dessert.

The recipes have an introduction header and description with ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. Ingredient measures are given in US standard only followed by step by step directions. Required ingredients are easily sourced and will be available at any well stocked grocery store. There are a few gluten free and many vegetarian friendly recipes included.

The photography and food styling are exceptionally well done and attractive. I found myself flipping through the recipes and having trouble deciding what I wanted to try first - they all look really good. In the end, we tried the sautéed pork tenderloin with blueberry balsamic mustard glaze and the instant pot blueberry swirl cheesecake (love my intant pot. and cheesecake. and blueberries). Both recipes were easy to follow and gave extremely good results. The balsamic glaze was -amazing- and I've tried it since then with huge success on chicken fillets. I fully intend to use it on a roast chicken and possibly on the Thanksgiving turkey. I'm not joking about the glaze - it's the best marinade/glaze I've ever done ... the author is definitely onto something here.

Five stars. This is a must have for gardeners (or readers with a pick-your-own farm or wild blueberries within driving distance) who are looking for ways to use up those glorious delicious little blue globes.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

BLUEBERRY LOVE by Cynthia Graubart

We used to live quite close to a blueberry farm that allowed the public to come and get a berry pail and pick as many blueberries as you wanted to. They would then weigh your haul and charge you by the pound. I think this instilled a lifetime love of blueberries for us. My hubby always requests homemade blueberry muffins for Christmas morning and whenever else he can get them (for his birthday as a surprise). Where we live now, there are lots of wild huckleberry plants all over and it's great to be on a short walk and stop and gather up a treat.

Blueberry Love is chocked full of tasty blueberry recipes. Breakfast, salads & sides, lunch & dinner, and dessert are all topics in the book. A wonderful sounding Blueberry Soup recipe, I haven't heard of that before, I've had strawberry soup, and it tasted fantastic.

There are gluten-free recipes along with gluten recipes. Sweet, savory, beverages, syrups, just about anything you could think of that uses blueberries. The author uses a lot of pre-prepared items, to make the recipes easier and possibly faster to create. Some people who make everything homemade can substitute in their own homemade versions if they want.

Highly recommend. With Blueberry Love or Strawberry Love, you can substitute any other fruit in on the recipes, also.

Much appreciation to #netgalley for the complimentary copy of #blueberrylove I was under no obligation to post a review.

I love blueberries - I love eating them plain, but most of all I love cooking with blueberries. They're sweet and delicious and make the best pastries, breads, jams, scones, etc. This cookbook provides a new twist on the classic blueberry recipes we know and love, but also provides some very interesting-sounding savory recipes as well - recipes for glazes to go on a variety of meats, recipes for salads, even some for soups! And the drinks - mmmm, smoothies and cocktails galore! If you like blueberries even a little bit, you will find something to love in this cookbook. Because blueberries deserve all the love.

As you may be able to guess, Blueberry Love is a recipe book centred around blueberries. Unlike my favourite raspberries and blackberries, which I will happily eat on their own, I tend to only like blueberries in other things. I thought this book would be a good chance to expand my blueberry-recipe horizons, and I was right!

The introduction began with a brief bit of history, and I learned that a species of blueberries (Wild Maine blueberries) is one of the few fruits native to North America. The introduction also included some helpful information like how to choose blueberries, how to store them and how to use different types (frozen, fresh and wild).

We are then given some basic baking tips, like methods and equipment to use, before we get into the recipes, organised into four sections by meal type (e.g. breakfast, dessert). However, there were no title pages to delineate the sections like most cookbooks have, so it took me a while to remember the recipes were organised in this way.

My only qualm is I was turned off by the brief 'superfood' talk, which tends to be used not by nutritional experts but instead by people trying to sell you something. How exactly do blueberries 'promote weight loss' as this book says? Whether or not it's true, and even if it's only briefly mentioned, I don't appreciate a book about food being flippant, making these weighty claims without anything to back it up other than it's 'considered [to be so] by many'. It's misguided at best and harmful at worst.

All in all, this is a good book of recipes with lovely pictures, and I can't wait until next summer to try the blueberry-lavender lemonade!
