The art style and dialogue gave me Captain Underpants/Dog Man kind of vibes. The style is cute, the plot and dialogue a little over the top (but perfect for young kids). Given the title, I was surprised to find said cat did not feel like the main character, but maybe that's because they can only meow. The talking characters definitely felt more prominent in the story. Many cute shenanigans and plot twists, and the running gag of every time the cat tries to eat pizza they get interrupted. A very quick read given how thick it was, and an entertaining brain break for the older readers.

This was a fun graphic novel for the elementary school set. The moon has a giant bite taken out of it by alien rats that have escaped. There’s only one solution send a cat. The number of times this cat tries to eat pizza as their first meal is daunting. Yes they finally do get their pizza but lots of crazy things have to happen in between. We have a talking toenail clipping robot, a moon queen, and a whole bunch of other things. The adventure reads like a younger version of lord of the rings and in fact the rings is even mentioned later in the book. Part of the story remind me of the Never Ending Story. Other parts are just laugh out loud. Kids of all ages will find this a fun comedic adventure to keep them flipping through all 323 pages.

I received a copy of The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza by Mac Barnett and Shawn Harris from HarperCollins Canada in exchange for an honest review.
My first thought as I finished reading The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza was this - "I loved it." Just a simple thought that encapsulated the reading experience of this middle grade graphic novel. It was a fun, hilarious lighthearted, and enjoyable reading experience that had me finishing the book in 2 sittings. One sitting if I wasn't distracted by all the adult things in my life that also have to prioritize. Readers will surely love this incredible adventure story that follows the First Cat in Space, the Queen of the Moon, and Loz 4000, a toenail-clipping robot. I cannot wait to see where this adventure will lead our unlikely heroes next.
