Lionel Dahmer's story is sad, but when comparing it to My Friend Dahmer, you can see where his faults lie as a parent. It feels almost as a defense of his own character, and that several aspects of his life were purposefully toned down or omitted.

An extremely reflective book about raising Jeffrey Dahmer. Lionel reflected on his shortcomings as a parent and how he wished he could have done better. It was also refreshing seeing Dahmer from a different side, although it doesn't take away the atrocities he committed.

This was an interesting look at Jeffrey Dahmer's life through the eyes of his father. It's hard to relate to Lionel as I have no idea what it would be like to go through what he did. He admits there were signs that he overlooked or outright ignored or made excuses for throughout Jeffrey's life. He does take blame for how Jeffrey turned out. I can't imagine it's easy being the parent of a killer. I'm not at all saying he's not partly responsible, but again, I have no idea what it would be like to be put in his situation.
