An extreamly raw and bare bones-type book that shows the effect of industrialization. the books aswell as the author's other books are fantastic in showing inner strugles, bad habbits and the induvualistic level/personal want of escaping your cuernt situation. I definitley recomend this books for annyone who likes biography's and philosofy and to also read it in your native lanugage to really make the story a little more personal to read.

This book reminded me why I love memoirs. It’s a very important and impactful story, but it’s also very gross and graphic (definitely look into trigger warnings if you think you might need them). But it has to be. It was very educational about a place/way of life that I’m not very familiar with (which is why I love memoirs). My only critique is that I wished we got more at the end after he *kinda spoiler, maybe?* left/went to school. I wanted to see him happy (although, it’s true that that wasn’t the point of the book). Also, I understand that this is about the author’s real life so of course he gets to choose which parts of his life he wants to keep private. 

Overall, highly recommend.

I have seen the author compared to Ernaux, and I can see why. A troubling account of poverty, bullying, and homophobia from a narrator whose conflict with social and gender roles in his family and village provided him with a self aware analytical gaze on social behaviours and class patterns. However, none of it felt as novel and thought provoking as I expected, given that this book was all rage when it came out. The writing is unremarkable, which feels almost rude to write, but remains important to me as a reader. The story matters, but is banal - arguably, that is why it does.
