He's a boy, she's a girl, and they're the two most powerful magicians in the known worlds. They're caught between two factions: The Rebels, who are trying to return an even more powerful magician to life to save the worlds in chaos since he died; and The Restorers, who are trying to thwart them and bring order to the worlds that were in chaos under his rule. They're babysitting his unwitting vessel, and wondering how much they can trust each other. So far, so good.
But. Mind-reading is a crutch for the characters, and a crutch for the author. Much of the book is spent inside someone's head, and their time is so often spent in someone else's. We're talking hundreds of pages of exposition where characters are vacillating between conveniently learning of a thing that will push the story along, and puzzling out (more preteen than Sherlock) what it might mean when they can't. There were times I put the book down in sheer frustration at the frequency of this arbitrary "conflict." He couldn't read her mind, or she couldn't read his, or it would be socially unacceptable to read theirs, and this guy had blocked his memories! Oh no! What a dilemma to have to deal with the same constraints as everyone else ever.
Successor's Promise is at least very easy to read. This is in its favour, and I could read 100 pages of this in the same time as I could read 20 in books I'm really enjoying. But, compared to the first two, the characters are weaker, the worlds even moreso, the story light on the ground, and the prose... serviceable.
I am not sure I'll read the next book. I might even recommend that you stop with number two, unless you've recently read some guff that a light read might nicely balance. I suspect if I hadn't read this after a string of fantastic books, I wouldn't be so harsh.

Es la primera triologia que leo de esta autora, y he de decir que estoy encantadísima y que leeré más libros de ella. Sin duda tanto porque me gusta el género de fantasía, y también porque me gusta mucho si estilo de escritura.
Esta tercera entrega para mí ha sido tan buena como las anteriores, quien haya leido mis reseñas anteriores lo sabrá.
Tyen y Rielle han ido avanzando a pasos agigantados y eso me ha gustado, ver cómo van evolucionando. aunque ha habido momentos en los que Rielle me sacaba de quicio.
Tyen sin duda me ha gustado más, mostrando su lado leal manteniendo la primera hacia vella, aunque tenga que arriesgar mucho por ello.
Qall es otro de los personajes que aparecen después del segundo libro. He de decir que no me termina de gustar, pues es muy predecible y se deja llevar por todo, tal vez por su inocencia o por su falta de recuerdos, pero no me terminó de convencer.
He echado en falta las conversaciones de Vella y Tyen, que, aunque aparecen en el libro, son muy pocas las veces en comparación con los anteriores libros.
Es verdad que se basa más en hacer todo lo posible por que el Raen no resucite (y los que hemos leído el libro ya sabemos que pasa) pero aun así esperaba algo más de la participación e Vella y Tyen.
Toda la historia de esta tercera parte gira en proteger a Qall y evitar a toda costa que las guerras llenen de oscuridad los mundos, después de todo lo que pasa anteriormente y que no voy a mencionar por no hacer Spoilers, leedlo si queréis saber que pasa por que la verdad es que intriga a mas no poder.
En cuanto al libro en general me encanta, tiene ritmo, te deja con ganas de más y hasta el mismísimo final te lleva por todos los capítulos haciéndolo único y especial. Sin duda la autora sabe cómo llevarnos por la historia sin que te aburras.
La acción está en cada página, asegurándote de que todo puede ocurrir en cualquier momento dejándote con más ansias de leer. He de decir que he tardado muy poco en leerlo por las ansias de terminar la trilogía, puesto que he tenido que leerme las dos anteriores para poder hacer esta reseña en condiciones, sabiendo de que iba la historia.
La variedad de mundos que la autora crea es increíble, y los personajes viajan por ellos haciendo que la historia sea mucho más divertida.
En algunos momentos he sentido que algunas cosas sobraban, como algunas descripciones demasiado largas para mi gusto, pero no han sido muchas y enseguida volvía a seguir el hilo de la historia.
Si os gusta las novelas fantástias, os recomiendo esta trilogía.

I'm not sure how I feel about this series to be honest. It's been a hot minute since I read the previous two books so it took a little time to get back into the world(s). One of my issues is that the pacing feels off. Between each of the books there's a five years gap, and about a year is spent in the books. At least the third one, I don't remember the time span in each of the other two books. I'm also not too hot about the plot. It's been dragged a lot through these books and I had hoped this would be the last book but nope. There will be a fourth book. I'm honestly not sure if I will pick that one up once it comes. I've sort of just read the book for Tyen and Vella and now we probably won't see much of her...

Such a fantastic book! I could not put this down. Canavan's world-building and character development are unmatched. A gripping read.

Puh, wo fange ich am besten an...
Ich liebe die Bücher von Trudi Canavan schon seit viiielen, vielen Jahren. Das hat sich nicht geändert. Allerdings weiss ich nicht ob ich bei ihrem nächsten Buch wieder zugreifen werde.
Der dritte Band der Millenniums Trilogie war ein echt anstrengendes Buch. Die erste Hälfte war zäh, ich bin nicht vorangekommen, die Charaktere waren mir nicht greifbar, die Geschichte schleppend, der Erzählstil nicht packend und die Handlung einfach langweilig… nachdem ich mich aber durchgekämpft hatte wurde es dann zunehmend spannend und ich verstand wieder, wieso ich Canavan liebe. Trotzdem bleibt der fade Nachgeschmack, dass ich mich immer zuerst durch die Hälfte Quälen muss, bevor es gut wird…
Die Idee und das Grundgerüst dieser Reihe sind super, leider fand ich die Umsetzung nicht sehr gelungen. Es wird viel zu lange auf unwichtigen Dingen fokussiert und am Schluss werden Dinge die 3 Bücher lang wichtig waren in wenigen Sätzen aufgelöst, geklärt und abgehackt….
Ich habe lange überlegt was es ist, das mich an ihren Büchern stört und ich glaube ich weiss es jetzt..
ich spüre nichts
Die Gefühle der Charaktere kommt nicht an.. Tyen und Rielle scheinen sich zu mögen aber spürt man das? Ich fand nicht. Und wenn ich das so überlege, war das in allen Büchern gleich. Liebesgeschichten sind nicht Canavans Ding. Was sie aber hervorragend kann, sind magische Welten zu erfinden. Verschiedene Kulturen, verschiedene Arten von Magie. Dafür hat sie echt ein Händchen.
Ich bleibe dennoch etwas enttäuscht zurück…..
Fazit: Anfangs zäh, dann besser. Trotzdem ein eher schwacher Schluss =(

Really great book, I loved the characters and the storyline, even though it was slow paced it didn't bother me. I'm glad there was more focus on Dahli, especially near the end of the book, and I liked where they went his his character.

First I thought this was a duology, then a trilogy - and now, just after finishing the 3 book, truns out this series just keeps on going.
It's slow-paced but so excellently world-built (is that a thing?) that my interest is still sustained.
If it turns out to be 10+ books to come though I may find my attention wavering...
