Ehm. Okay. Also los! Kauft euch das Buch und liebt es genauso, wie ich es getan habe. L.I.E.B.E.!

This was my first reread of a book in years because I find it quite difficult to reread a story that isn’t a childhood read. Upon rereading I understand why I loved this book so much. Olly and Maddy’s relationship was so cute and I loved seeing the progression of their relationship and getting an insight into what life can be like with a life threatening disease. However, I didn’t enjoy that an underrepresented disease ended up as just a plot twist. Finding out that the mom faked it the whole time annoyed me and I thought it would’ve been better to show ways to live with something like that, instead of it just not being real. But overall, still enjoyed and would read again.

I love everything about this book; the style, the romance mixed with the self discovery.

I gave this book 3/5, I liked it but I wasn't blown away by it either.

The subject and story line had potential for depth but I don't think it really hit any sort of significant depth. It was a lot of surface material and the smallest hint of insta-love.

I do, however, think this novel has a great coming of age story to tell. I would recommend it to teens who are trying to find themselves. Even in being trapped inside her house all of her life, without the world interfering, Maddy struggles to know who she is. This is a great read to watch her journey as she discovers exactly who she is.

The romance part to the story fell a little flat. I wanted the connect between Olly and Maddy to go deep and I think the author wanted that as well but it just fell a tiny bit short. Their story was sweet though and watching it grow and bloom was still nice to see.

I spent a lot of time thinking I had this book figured out and that it was a tad predictable ... and I was proven wrong in one instant. So the end definitely tripped up a bit.

Book on CD performed by Bahni Turpin & Robbie Daymond
3.5***

From the book jacket: My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window and I see him.

My reactions:
This YA romance had some significant serious issues to discuss. Can love (even teenage love) conquer all? Yoon certainly makes a good case.

I really liked Maddy (Madeline Whittier). She’s intelligent and mostly serene. She’s come to accept her very limited world and hasn’t really “missed” what she can’t have. Until now, of course. Olly is more complex and guarded. His family situation is fraught with drama and it’s understandable that he’d want to keep some things to himself. Still …

What starts as messages taped to windows, and progresses to texting and IMing, must inevitably lead to meeting in person. Each of these teens has some significant issues to deal with on their own, and sharing their struggles brings them closer together. They come to trust in and support one another in a very nice, somewhat naïve way. Of course, things can’t possibly go smoothly for these star-crossed lovers.

There were some things that bothered me in the plot, mostly dealing with the reality of how things might happen. But I was willing to go along for the ride because I really liked both Maddy and Olly. I guessed the big secret ahead of the reveal, but still liked how Yoon handled it. And I liked the way these teens interacted with one another and their families.

Bahni Turpin and Robbie Daymond do an excellent job of voicing the audiobook. They really brought these teens to life for me. I’m glad, however, that I had the text handy, which includes a number of illustrations which just don’t translate well to audio format.

What a twist! An ending I didn't expect. I had to have more as soon as I began reading it. This book took me on a journey of self discovery and liberation. I was so glad for the diversity in the book, in the characters and in the writing style. I definitely recommend reading this!
