I LOVE THIS BOOK! I watched all 3 seasons in a span of 2 days! I love love love this book. And the show is PHENOMENAL. Faith, family, & healing are key values within all of the books. THE STORYLINE IS CRAZY. GO READ IT & WATCH IT!!!!
My first Karen Kingsbury book and it won’t be my last! This was the perfect palate cleanser. Can’t wait for the TV series at the end of this month.
I will never not love these books! I have been following the Baxter family for 20+ years now and always look forward to the next title. Karen Kingsbury has a way of writing that is inspirational, real, and relatable. You won't be sorry if you start reading her titles and this book is a great place to start to get to know the family before diving into all their stories in the series.
A few years ago before I got married I devoured the Baxter books one by one as I was able to get them from the library local to where I was at the time. These books have always provided me comfort at the time as I was going through a difficult time. I am not sure why I stopped I guess my reading slowed down in general. Anyway I saw this prequel and I figured it was a good way of getting back into these books and back the fictional family that I love.
Although the book goes back in time, which was what I clearly expected i immediately felt the comfort I felt a decade ago to the point where I hunted out all the Baxter books that I have not read yet in order to get started.
Yes I knew what was going to happen, as it was set in the past and I have read subsequent books - but I still felt comfort that I first felt when life was getting me down and it gave me the pick up I needed.
It was a lovely book and reminded me of the characters I love who saved me when I needed to be saved in more ways than one. I am glad she wrote more of them as I ever want the series to end.

What I read: The Baxters by Karen Kingsbury
Why I picked it up: I’m all-in for the Baxters. This series is 25ish books now and I’m always happy to go back to see where they are.
How I read it: On hardcover.
What it’s about: Kari’s wedding day to Tim. It was lovely to see the happy part of their story. They’re the first focus of the Redemption series and it’s not happy. There’s also some good back story for the rest of the gang.
What I liked: I loved knowing what happened before the previous start to the series.
What I disliked: There was a lot of Ashley and Luke in here too, and their relationship at this stage is so ugly. Some of the things are just hard to read.
Genre: Christian fiction.
Rating & Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and only as part of the larger series. A fine beginning, but not a stand alone.

This book was just what I needed in my life. I loved that it filled in the Baxters lives before Redemption as well as how it touched lightly on several of the other books without spoiling too much. I especially loved that it touched on parts of the middle grade series.

Since I completed the rest of the Baxter series prior to reading this prequel, I found it hard at times to continue reading and not put down the book because I wanted to yell at the characters.
