I loved this book so much, the mystery of it was amazing. Also I loved the characters, and how they interacted with each other. And all I can say is the ending was perfect!!

This book is beautiful! The writing is beautiful--I tried to read the book as slowly because I wanted to devour every word. The story and setting are beautiful--not that I'm saying war and slavery are, but the world and its conflicts and complications Rutkoski has built got me engaged easily, wanting to know what was going to happen. The characters and their developments are beautiful--especially the complex relationships among the characters. Finally, the romantic story is beautiful--I think many YA pairings are cheesy but Kestel and Arin's story makes my heart ache and root for them. As reviewer Wendy Darling describes, the book is very pensive and romantic.

I do acknowledge that some people are skeptical of this book and that I may be too positive about this book. It is probably because I have not enjoyed something this well-made in a while with a worthy romantic story. Perhaps if you read this solely as a historical fantasy book it is not very convincing, but if you read as both that and a love story you will enjoy it much more!

Come to find out this basically does end up being a colonizer romance and girlie doesn't have half a brain to do better in the next 2 books so as much as I was hooked I'm not wasting my time on a disappointment.

This book ended up being so much more than I thought it was going to be!
The political aspects of this book were so well done and kept be on the edge of my seat!
The slow build of the romance was such a force of anticipation it became hard to bear ( in a good way)!
The main characters were so well developed, SMART, and so well written!
Rutkoski's writing really stole the show for me, it was eloquent and gripping in a way that you rarely see in YA novels!
The only reason why I'm not giving this 5 stars is because it took a while for me to get into the book, about a 100 pages, but after the I was completely sucked in!
I need to go run and get the sequel now asap!
