So I love cozy mysteries, though I can’t eat ice cream. So all the recipes and descriptions of ice cream were totally a tease throughout this entire mystery. Entertaining characters, lots of twists, pretty well done.

An okay storyline but it felt repetitive and kinda dull. There seemed to be too many secondary characters and the mystery was slow to progress then it felt rushed at the end. I liked more of the details of the ice cream shop than the mystery part of it.

First book by this author and I’m really enjoying the series so far.

Bronwyn also known as “Win,” is a successful MBA graduate who has recently taken over the family business, Crewse Creamery. She has been working extremely hard to return the ice cream shop back to its former glory days. Going as far as to use her grandmothers original recipes and a complete renovation of the shop. After experiencing delay after delay, Bronwyn is finally able to open. However after a long day of absolutely no sales she is feeling a little sorry for herself. She ventures out to get some fresh snow to make her grandmothers famous snow ice cream recipe and stumbles across a body. Not just any body however, the man who once tried to tear her family apart and steal the family business.

Due to the method of murder, Bronwyn’s dad immediately makes his way to the top of the suspect list. With the help of her best friend Maisie, Bronwyn is determined to conduct her own investigation and clear her father’s name.

I had a love/hate relationship with Bronwyn. She was incredibly intelligent and had everything going for herself but the way she went about certain situations bothered me. I felt like she was unnecessarily rude to O. He was very helpful not only to her but also her family business and she was very standoffish with him. She treated him like he was almost bothering her. Even the way she treated Maisie sometimes. Like she consistently didn’t take her seriously and at times came off a little judgy. Also, although I do overall agree with her that her parents shouldn’t have been babying her and needed to treat her like an adult. In a lot of situations she did have a lot of child like tendencies. Also I felt like for almost half of the book she would beat around the bush instead of just approaching something head on 😩

Hopefully we’ll see more of Riya in book two because she was treated almost like an afterthought. Maisie and Bronwyn completely left her out of their investigation until basically the end of the story. I thought that was a little weird since they were all supposed to be best friends. I also didn’t like how Bronwyn would pick and choose when to leave Maisie out of the investigation. Let’s be for real, there wouldn’t be an investigation if Maisie hadn’t been pushing for it in the beginning.

Excited to read book 2!

I won an advanced release copy of A Deadly Inside Scoop by @abbylvandiver in a Goodreads giveaway. This cozy murder mystery was a fun read. Finding out who committed the murder when so many people had opportunity and motive is hard enough. But trying to solve the crime while relaunching an ice cream shop in the winter is a recipe for mayhem. The descriptions of the home made ice cream flavors made my mouth water. If you like cozy mysteries, I highly recommend this one! Thank you, Berkley Publishing Group!
