Wow. This author sure is... smug. I'm 12 pages in and am more annoyed than this guy's tone than I've been in awhile. I will keep going on the book because, just because a guy is smug, doesn't mean he won't have good advice. Now I may have more starting knowledge than the average reader of this book, but a lot of this advice comes across as condescending. "Now, I know I'm not a woman, but in all my years of non-womanhood, I've gotten to know your bodies better than you."
He quotes numerous studies, most of which use less than 100 people and haven't been reproduced. And frankly, for a weight-loss professional, I'm really surprised that he's using the BMI chart as a way to measure "success." In a weight-lifting book no less.
The exercises were helpful though.

I wish I could say that this book was helpful. I don't know how I am supposed to believe someone who admits that he has previously written articles that had useless or bad information in them. I will never again buy any fitness books because they are all trying to sell you something. I was hoping for a good workout plan, but I did not even get that.

I learned a lot from this book. It would have been 5 stars if the nutrition section had been more thorough.

Funny from time to time, but very clear in goals and methods. Planning to start the program soon, if all goes as intended.

I liked that he discourages super low calorie diets, although I don't agree with his stance and artificial sweeteners and protein powder. The workouts can be boring but effective. And I love that he's not into cardio. I hate cardio. lol. I think I will use the workouts more when I can easily get to a gym. I can do modifications to make them work at home but it's too boring for me to get excited about. I think I'm better off using YouTube videos for now. But I still really like this book just for an alternative approach to weight loss and toning up.

This is a weightlifting book written by a man but specifically designed for women. Why should women have a different workout book? Why can't they just use the same one a man does? Lou Schuler argues that a woman builds muscle differently than a man does hence the reason why he wrote this book. Also it's because he got a lot of requests from women who wanted a version of his The New Rules of Lifting for them.

This book provides a whole different way of looking at weight loss and exercise. Schuler's tone is very assuring yet stern. He tells you like it is but is also very encouraging. He's pretty much what you would want out of a personal trainer.

I would recommend this book to any woman who wants to be physically stronger and is sick of the hamster wheel that is endless cardio. If you like to work out alone, this is a good book. You'll have some guidance but it's up to you to put the advice and the exercises into practice.

Looking at lifting weights and not too sure where to start? This book will teach you that you won't bulk up and you will get lean the way that you want to.
Fantastic if you have access to a gym or have your own home gym

I didn't care for the diet plan, would love to see a a paleo diet plan with this routine.

When I have access to a fully equipped gym then I will give this program a go.

I devoured this book. It's amazing. The author is funny even though it's clear that he's very serious about what he's talking about. The information was enlightening and very empowering.

I'm only 3 workouts in to the workout plan so I can't speak to the whole, but so far I'm liking it. The instructions for each exercise are well-written and easy to foolow. The workouts I've done so far have been challenging without being overwhelming. I feel like I'm making the most of my time in the gym without having to spend hours and hours there to get a good burn.

Reviews are correct. I just didn't like the tone of this book. I feel like it would have been better if it had been written by a woman or at least not so back and forth between the sexes.
