emotional informative slow-paced

A beautiful story about family and belonging. It was a slow start (although fun and interesting!) but the third act was so beautiful. The Houston chapter at the end was my absolute favorite, and I'll be re reading forever.

It was a good audiobook, but I preferred the physical/ written version.

While I appreciate the premise of the book’s concept, it fell short in the execution. The author failed in the first rule of expository writing: show don’t tell. Most of the book was an extended academic essay in the history of accordion music, instruments and performers. Where the author could have illuminated the reader with stories of his history, instead he repeated the same conclusions over and over without describing or providing examples to illustrate the idea.

It’s one of those books I feel very grateful exists- migrant stories & hope & disappointment & the lives we building upon the stories of our ancestors, even if they’re not as we think they are. It felt like a really long poem. & I learned a lot about accordions!
