not sure why this one didn't resonate with me as much as other memoirs but still appreciated the author's journey to learn more about his family story.

Nothing against this book, I just think I'm more in the mood for a more atmospheric story right now than a memoir. The writing also didn't really draw me in, but that could just be my mood right now.

The sensory imagery in this one was absolutely beautiful. It’s a really powerful story. Some of it as a bit repetitive. I would definitely read Alvarez’s other book, Spirit Run.
