SUMMARY:
When the world is plunged into darkness, who would you turn to? Amid the sun-drenched orange groves of California, childhood friends Tuck Mattice and Emily Swanson shared a bond that seemed unbreakable, until life ripped them apart. Thirteen years later, Emily is a rising pop sensation in need of security, and Tuck, a brooding ex-con, is in need of a fresh start. When fate brings them together once again, Emily hires him on as her new bodyguard. They butt heads and bicker, just like the old days yet neither can deny the heat rekindling between them. But when a cataclysmic solar flare disrupts the electrical grid, society is suddenly plunged into chaos and darkness. For Emily, the familiar comforts of fame and fortune crumble, but for Tuck, this stark new reality could be the chance he needs to finally prove himself. As they come to terms with all they've lost and the bitterness that's kept them apart, they must find their way back to one another and discover a new place, under the sun.
REVIEW:
Heart of the Sun is my first book by Mia Sheridan and it will not be my last. This love story started with childhood friends Tuck Mattice and Emily Swanson bond that didn't seem like it could break until life ripped them apart. After more than a decade later Emily is a rising pop star singer in need of security with Tuck, an ex-con, needing a fresh start which leads him to becoming her bodyguard. Things take a turn when a cataclysmic solar flare disrupts the electrical grid that plunges the entire country into chaos and darkness. The moment that Tuck took the blame for the accident that Emily was about to get in trouble for was so sweet since he knew that going to the music camp meant everything to her. When Tuck thought about how books brought him a measure of comfort his whole life especially when he was surviving prison hit me deep as I felt the same about books.
The journey that Emily and Tuck had to take in order to survive this new world that they were literally dropped into after surviving a plane crash was filled with action, danger and a love that started in childhood and rekindled after many years apart. There were several action moments during Tuck and Emily's journey to get home that were intense enough that it seemed like things weren't going to end well for them. As Tuck and Emily said their goodbyes when she decided to go to a safe community she had been invited to I knew that there was going to be a moment that would make change Tuck enough to go get her back. It was an emotional moment when Tuck and Emily finally accepted their love and survived to make their family. Mia Sheridan delivered a page-turning second chance slow burn romance that had me captivated from start to finish. Emily and Tuck had me emotionally invested in finding out if they would survive this new dystopia world that was going to change the way they saw the world and even each other. I was sad and happy when as they both got their HEA.

I went in blind and I was unexpectedly really into the dystopian/post-apocalyptic vibe. It starts as a love story, but the survival journey quickly took center stage for me—and that’s where the book really shines. I loved the setting and the tension of traveling through a crumbling world.
The FMC & MMC both had solid character growth, though I wish they acted on it sooner. The pacing was decent overall, but the ending felt a little too rushed for me. I found myself more invested in the journey and survival aspect than the romance, but as always, Mia Sheridan’s writing is strong.

Graphic: Death, Sexual content, Violence, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Cursing, Blood, Gaslighting
It was not the love story I had anticipated, but moving, especially with the current state of our world.

I was surprised by this book! I went in blind, and got a little excited at the mild dystopian vibe. Then I loved it as it went on. It was first a love story and seconded a dystopian/post-apocalypse book. The world was just a setting for the journey to love, but it added the perfect emotional depth and complications to things. I really enjoyed the storytelling in this one.

This book surprised me. I just grabbed it at Walmart while out of town because I finished the book I brought with me. It had pretty edges. I could not put this book down I read 90% of it in 24 hours.
