I found that I enjoyed some parts of this more than others. The first half is honestly really boring and I couldn’t even tell you what happened. There was a couple side quests with Orthos, Yerin, and Mercy that I found really uninteresting. However, the parts with Lindon were fantastic.

Lindon is really entering into the last phase of his progression in this book and his personality is changing accordingly. I like where it’s going and I think it’s fun that he could totally be the villain in another characters story.

I feel a little weird about Dross’s whole arc. I understand why the author chose to do what they did, but it felt a bit like telling a victim of PTSD to just “cheer up” and then that ultimately was the right thing to do. So yeah, it’s not really a message I agree with. That said, I really doubt that’s the message the author was trying to communicate and it may have just been a bit of an accident. The fact that Dross is there and functioning and doing his job but the job is affecting his personality seems like it could have been an opportunity to tell a really deep message about being ok with change and how things can really affect your personality and that just happens sometimes. Oh well, opportunity missed, but I guess this just isn’t that kind of book.

I really love what’s being done with the Dreadgods and the constant scaling done with them as well and how our hero is scaling right along with them. It’s such a neat idea and it works great in this kind of story.

Overall it’s a great story being told that I have a few problems with, but I await the final book to make a decision regarding the entire series. Let’s finish strong!
