HORNIER THAN A PAIR OF JACKRABBITS HAHAHA oh my GOD that’s an understatement. Anyways, this was just a cheesy, hallmark Christmas romance that I ATE UP.

i rue the day that i learned how to read because it all led to me having to read the phrase “i matching robes love you”
i wish both characters had died in the end just for that

A great classic dirty rom-com, very consumable and a bit silly.
This was such a cute book! Grumpy ex convict girl meets sunshine-y Midwestern-raised boy outside of a department store, mourning the “tragedy in tinsel” in the window box. (I don’t really have the patience for writing elaborate and poetic reviews so just bear with me hear for a sec.)
I loved Aiden’s character!! I’d read somewhere that he was supposed to be a Ted Lasso-inspired character (which is the best TV show ever made and y’all should go watch it on Apple TV+), and while I didn’t necessarily get a Ted Lasso vibe from him, he was still a character that you knew was just a great human being that everyone wanted in their life. Also he tells great stories about his Aunt Edna is Tennessee.
Stella is a flawed character that I feel like many people can relate too. While not all of us have a former prison record, I feel that most of us have gone through some form of a toxic relationship with someone else that pressures you into doing things that don’t reflect your own thoughts and feelings. I also think many people feel the same way that she does in that she struggles with imposter syndrome a lot, and because of her biggest mistake, she feels guilty whenever she starts being happy. I know I could definitely relate to her, and I know that others can too.
I got this book for my getting-in-the-Christmas-vibe type of reading. However, I did not really get a ton of Christmas vibes from this story. For me personally, while I can definitely enjoy a good romance novel, romance is not a genre that I am hugely into. This novel was primarily romance-driven, which I felt detracted from the Christmas vibes. However, as I have said that I am not into the romance scene as much and if you really enjoy romance-driven novels with Christmas, this is definitely the book for you!
I really enjoyed this book, but the reason why I only gave it four stars is because the language towards the beginning felt redundant and regurgitated. I understand that both Stella and Aiden were going through a lot at the beginning, and they were trying to come up with excuses as to why they wouldn’t work. But it felt as though there was only one reason for each of them that just kept getting repeated and gone into detail over and over and over again. It definitely got better near the end because they were getting closer and they were starting to realize that their love was real and not solely lust (is it a spoiler when everyone already knows they’re going to end up together in the end?). Also in my personal opinion, I didn’t really like the references to the pandemic and setting the book in a post-pandemic world.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book, even as someone who isn’t a huge romance reader. I definitely recommend this book to romance readers and people who like the Christmas in New York trope! Really well done to the author!
