Chimimanda Ngozi Adichi's voice is necessary and gorgeous. She portrayed so many vivid and contrasting emotions with such care and developed her characters fully. I did want more information on Father Amadi, and I would love to read what happens next, as these characters left me grasping for more.

I really did enjoy some aspects of the story and I fell in love with many of the characters. I was just so bothered by the abuse, both physical and mental, that I couldn’t get over that hump to full appreciation of the story.

Its a good read, I just wished there was hope at the end. I wished things ended up better for them. I have so many questions. If you have issues with domestic abuse, dont try it.

I agree with Ebony A. Utley's review. On point.

I understand Father Amadi's role, but the parts with a romantical suggestion and not from Kambili's perspective made me uncomfortable, as she is still 15 y/o.

Finished reading this. Book 6 of 2025.

🌺 A bit depressing story. Trigger warning on domestic violence. Read only if you can bear imaging it. The story ends in hope which was a relief for me. Well written. Gripping from start to end. (But there were portions where I zoned out.) Overall a good read. 🌺

Already planning on rereading
