The art, panelling and overall character design is pretty basic but this is a genuine insight into trans lives in 2016 Japan. Yuna is really open about her process of changing her body and her papers, her feeling throughout her hospital stay and some general information on terms and laws that influenced her decisions.
It's interesting that the book itself only focuses on a very short time period - she is out about her identity, on hormones, she seems to be happy in her life otherwise and there is no big deliberation or concern on her parts.

This was an easy (and funny) read for a difficult topic. As with graphic novels, I think manga are good ways to address political issues.

This manga was super informative on the politics of gender affirming operations in Japan. A lot of things I didn't know, a lot of things I found out were or are very similar in Germany. I learned a lot about the operation and what it does to ones body and about law. I liked that the author said how it was an personal experience and that she tried to be sensible about language and tone of the book. There was a lot of hilarious moments which made the topic a bit silly, but since it was a personal experience it didn't seem ridiculous.
The language was very binary, which I'm not used to anymore in queer contexts. There was a lot of calling it "man to women operation" about how someone's in a wrong body. The gender dysphoria was described as an illness, but it is important to note that the author explained the words the politics use to describe transgender persons. Also it's just the language that I'm used to, which doesn't have to be correct.
Anyway, I had a good time.
