I love the Fables series and have tolerated the Jack of Fables series for its levity and occasional bursts of clever humour, but this mash-up was just a bit too silly to be enjoyable. The best bit was actually the extract of the Peter and Max novel at the end.
This ended okay but in general it just dragged. I could see what Mr. Willingham was trying to do but no matter what I did, it didn't grab me.
I just don't like Jack and he's particularly despicable in this volume. Also, I didn't enjoy how this whole volume took a detour from the main plot - it seemed pointless. Ready to get back to the main story.
Like so many others have already said...DO NOT bother reading this volume, as it is not really a part of the series. Such a waste of time even picking it up, and a really dumb plot of a writer who has the power to change the world of the Fables. 2 stars is being generous.
Other than the awesome metafiction, which was even more way-over-the-top, breach-of-the fourth-wall than usual (and in my book that's saying something), this didn't have much else going for it. I found it a bit underwhelming, especially after the most recent events at the Fables universe raised the bar pretty high.
Also (and this is just me being petty), now I have the feeling that I should read Jack of Fables at some point. Which sucks. I hate that guy! Can I get the Genres and the pretty librarians and all the rest and leave that prick out of it all? Pretty please?

this was the absolute worst. I had zero interest in Jack of Fables and was so disappointed to have him inserted back into the main series in this crossover. I forced myself to finish this afraid that I would miss out on details relevant to the main fables plot line, but no, what a waste of time.
A great number of people have seemed particularly grumpy about this one, especially since it largely pauses the storyline present in 12 (which is then resumed in 14) to follow the Jack of Fables series that broke off [rightly so] from the Fables universe. On one hand, I understand this, as having to wait for the continuation of plot can be annoying and it takes a while to fully understand the "Literals" plot line from Jack of Fables.
On the other hand, this story arc made me laugh out loud while sitting by myself, which is a feat in itself. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its sheer entertainment value. And frankly, I think the series needed a bit of that, before moving into the next major crisis. Thus, I, for one, think this was ultimately pretty masterful and a nice move on the author's part to provide some comedic relief for a while before having to resume the otherwise very serious and dire plot lines.

Currently, this is the funniest Fables I've read but not the best though. A lot of Bigby and Snow White, again. I'm starting to dislike those two because every Fables book is about them. Its like when you eat chocolate everyday you get tired of it in a matter of time. I also used to be indifferent to Jack Horner but through this Fables book, I've grown to love him. I'm thinking of reading "Jack of Fables". He's really funny. a comic relief and the most unusual story hero. The Literals are also interesting. I loved seeing the different genres personified. I would love to see a second volume of "The Literals". Over-all, it was an okay book.
