The Farm

Teen fiction vampire book. Not as good as interview with a vampire but more like that than twilight. Was good. Cliffhanger ending. Will have to read others in the series to find out what happens to the characters.

I really enjoyed the premise and first 25% of this story, but I soon tired of Lily and her overblown reactions to every single interaction/occurrence/etc. in her life. The storyline with Carter started well, but it didn't provide enough to hold my interest. In fact, the story dragged for me until the very end, where everything suddenly seemed very rushed. The Ticks weren't even all that unique or interesting, either.

I won't be continuing with this series.

This book most likely won't be making any favorites lists, but despite the mostly poor execution, I enjoyed the story, or maybe it was more the concept. The idea behind the book sounded very interesting and really grabbed me, as did the cover, but overall I was none too thrilled with it. Despite the problems I had with it, it did leave me wanting to pick up the next book and continue the story to find out what happens.

I know its cliché, but i do really like vampire books. Most of the ones I have read are not very good, so the bar wasn’t very high. This one still managed to disappoint. The storytelling was clunky at best and the plot never quite managed to get me hooked. On the matter of representation: As a member of the autistic community i always find it difficult when autistic people are being portrayed from a allistic viewpoint by an allistic author, especially when the characters traits come up most often to inconvenience and endanger the others. It is possible to present a respectful outside perspective, however this wasn’t it. Im not throwing this book out, but im also not going to be reading again or recommending.

There were some interesting ideas in this book but ultimately it's very teen characters just grated too much.

The beginning was kind of slow but the rest was pretty good. I can't help but think that the Ticks are the zombie-vampires though. Zompires.

But omfg Carter <3 his love confession was perfect. I'd be as pissed as Lily was though so I'm not one to judge.

you know what?
i actually really enjoyed this book
i didn't expect much but i was pleasantly surprised
there's a good story...excellent characters...and it's well written.

it's essentially a survival story set in the future where there are these ticks and vampires and all the adults don't really care about the teenagers so they put them in farms to feed the ticks...creepy right?

lily is one badass character...i admire her spirit and i liked her character development. she has to be strong and can't let her guard down because she has to protect her autistic sister Mel...mel is also really cool, her way of thinking is different yet unique.
and carter...well he wants to swoop in and rescue the girls and start a rebellion but unfortunately things don't always go to plan.

and what a plot twist at the end...
but hey desperate times call for desperate measures right?

Happy Reading =D

Very unique twist on the typical zombie story. I honestly didn't want to put this book down and am now impatiently waiting for the 2nd book to be published in November. Go read this -- you won't regret it.

one of my favorite books this year by FAR.
