Loved listening to this book and couldn’t wait each day to get in my car to see what was going to happen!
Obsessing over this story. What an extremely detailed, character-driven book. This is only my second Emily Henry book, but, her writing draws me in from start to finish! When I have to stop reading, I was thinking about when I could pick it back up again! She's so good at creating "real life" characters. The struggles each person faces, never feels superficial or overused. It's so relatable!
And Emily Henry is FUNNY! This book had me giggling the whole time!! No matter what's going on, Emily Henry will somehow tie a joke in there along the way, and it WORKS! I've read rom-coms with awkwardly placed humor, but, she has it down to a science!
The fear of losing Libby, and the constant anxiety about needing to take care of her, stems from their mother putting the weight on Nora at a young age. Then, factor in the death of their mother, Nora was never able to play the sister role to Libby. Nora went straight into mom mode, making sure her younger sister had everything she needed. She never got a chance to just be a sister.
I love the transformation of their relationship throughout this book! Growth within both characters. They both realized that it was okay for them to grow apart, because they're sisters, and they'll always have each other, no matter where they are!
"We'll get on the phone, and look up at the sky, and then we'll know we're still together. Wherever we go."
The enemies to lovers sexual tension between these two was there from the beginning! I was kicking my feet every time she ran into Charlie! The banter was perfect. Charlie's humor is so dry, and I love dry humor. They kind of reminded me of Jim and Pam from The Office, or Lorelei and Luke from Gilmore Girls!
"We really are two opposing magnets, incapable of being in the same room without drawing together."
The romance is not the center of the plot, in my opinion. It was more of Nora figuring out what kind of person she wanted to be for herself and the people in her life, and it just so happens she meets someone similar, that can relate, along the way! I think that's what makes the romance so special. They were two individuals with their own lives before they started. They didn't need to lean on each other. They weren't each other's crutch. They simply existed, and was there when the other needed guidance, and their love for each other became something beautiful! Charlie and Nora are literally soulmates!
"I read once that sunflowers always orient themselves to face the sun. That's what being near Charlie Lastra is like for me. There could be a raging wildfire racing toward me from the west, and I'd still be straining eastward toward his warmth."
I love love LOVE how Nora doesn't conform into this mold that most people expect of women. Nora is in her early thirties, doesn't want kids, is very career driven and hardworking. Women are often looked down on for being that way, while men don't have to live up to the same standards. There's no need to "tame" a powerful, bad-ass woman, to fit your societal standards!
"That's one thing about women. There's no good way to be one. Wear your emotions on your sleeve and you're hysterical. Keep them tucked away where your boyfriend doesn't have to tend to them and you're a heartless bitch."
Hell yeah, Emily Henry!

Definitely my least favorite Emily Henry. Slow, boring, and I knew how I wanted it to end as soon as the main conflict was brought up. The main couple is cute and I liked the ending, but I found the sister somewhat annoying and did not care for her motivation or how she handled the main conflict.
