I know it’s been six years already, but if I don’t get a sequel sometime in my lifetime, I’m haunting Rachel Hawkins.
Really fun, light hearted, very teen type story
“ 'You have that expression on your face that speaks of incipient moral dubiousness,' Torin observed, making me glad I’d bought that thesaurus a few years back.”
“I had always been proud of my mom. So she’d never back cookies, or sew a Halloween costume, but she could fight monsters. She was tough and smart, and maybe she didn’t read bedtime stories, but she had taught me to defend myself against the things that lurked under beds.”

I really enjoyed this and I am somewhat shocked and annoyed that it’s not a standalone (well it clearly wasn’t meant to be). Rachel Hawkins, I demand tribute!
Sometimes I just want to read a well-plotted book about a girl who is sort of like Buffy, you know?
Luckily Rachel Hawkins writes books.
School Spirits, a spin-off of Hawkins's Hex Hall series centers around the youngest of the Brannick girls, Izzy who is briefly in the Hex Hall books. As the Brannick women dwindle in numbers, Izzy's mom decides to move to a small town in Alabama (I think it's Alabama. Could be Mississippi. But I'm pretty sure it's Alabama). And for the first time, Izzy will go to a real school.
Enter Mary Evans High School. MEHS, y'all. I laughed out loud every time I read MEHS in this book. Hawkins, you are a funny lady and I like you.

This was the fun start of a spin-off series to Hex Hall. The plot was pretty basic, but the new characters were fun and several mysteries remain to be answered!
I absolutely loved this book. I adore Hex Hall, and I was really happy when I found this book. Izzy was always one of my favourite characters and I'm so glad Rachel Hawkins decided to write a story about the Brennicks. I loved the storyline, I loved the end, I loved all the new characters, especially Dex. I just love it!
