I really loved this book. It was so good, I didn't want to put it down half the time... It was just so action-packed. I wanted Dex and Izzy to be as couple since there moment they met. Ajay, I really want them to find Finley. I kind of liked Torin, even though no one else did; Dex is my favorite though. I'm not quite sure how to say Romy's name and I probably said our wrong the entire book, but who cares? I can't wait for the next book, if their is one!!!
School Spirits is my fifth Rachel Hawkins read, and every one of them has had the same issues. I find consistent plot holes and continuity errors across all her writing. While School Spirits did so much better than the rest, it comes to an open ending, leaving two major plot points unresolved. It seems like Hawkins intended to write a second book on this Hex Hall spin off, and I find it incredibly irritating that I won’t know the resolutions of these issues.
Otherwise, the story of a teenage monster hunter having to learn to be a normal high schooler is a good one. Hawkins seems to really understand the struggles of a teenage girl, and I liked most of her writing in this book. If it hadn’t been for the plot holes or the mostly predictable ending, I would’ve rated this book a lot higher.

Honestly, I recommend everything that Rachel Hawkins writes. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. I'm so excited for Rebel Belle coming out this month.
She left me wanting more, as usual. Her writing style is witty, so much fun to read. Did not disappoint at all! :) Definitely pick it up if you've read the Hex Hall series, and if you haven't read that, READ IT.

Solid 3 and a half. There were some inconsistencies in the writing and I didn't like Izzy quite as much as Sophie but damn does she know how to write a leading man. Pretty good!
I love Izzy's attitude and uncertainly going into high school. This series didn't disappoint me. As a fan of Hex Hall to begin with. The story plot was good and wasn't easy to figure out who did what. So that was good. :) I can't wait for another book for this series and find out about the relationship with Izzy and Dex... and what happens to Torin after this book Oo I was so shocked! Yup... lovely book!
It was cute & I liked it. But, I kind of miss Sophie's snarkiness, Izzy is kind of awkward. Dex is fun though, will be interested to see what happens next.
Why was this written? The first three were a clear series with an actual ending but then as a spin-off this just ends mid-story? It’s currently labeled as book #4, but it clearly was meant to start a new series that she just never wanted to come back to. It should have been left as a trilogy.
It’s promising but I don’t care enough for this character to continue the story. The trilogy was enough for me… maybe one day I will pick it up again.
In love! Rachel Hawkins has done it again! Great writing, witty sense of humor and more! I'm soooo looking forward to read the next book...more please!!
School Spirits is a spin-off novel from Rachel Hawkins’ Hex Hall series. I adored the Hex Hall series, and I was super excited to finally start School Spirits. I’ve had the book on my to-read list for quite some time, but I never had a chance to check it out. Then I discovered that my library had the audiobook for it, and I decided to give it a listen. I enjoyed it so much!
The characters in the story are great. Izzy is related to Sophie from the Hex Hall series, and she was such a great character. She was determined and headstrong, and also very mature for her age. It was fun seeing her first real experience at high school, after being homeschooled all her life. Seeing the world that we saw in Hex Hall through Izzy’s eyes was definitely interesting, and I enjoyed the different point of view.
The secondary characters are awesome as well. I really love Izzy’s mom, and also the new friends that she meets at her new school. They were all very interesting. But the most interesting is Torin, the warlock who was stuck in the mirror. I absolutely fascinated with Torin, and I’m dying to know more of his story!
There was not as much magic and monsters in this book as there were in the Hex Hall series, but there was enough to keep me entertained. They storyline mainly revolved around one particular witch, which was awesome, as they are some of my most favorite paranormals to read about.
Overall; I really enjoyed this spinoff novel! I am super curious to see if there’s going to be a sequel, as the end of the book was left to where there definitely could be one. I’d love to read it if there is!
Happy Reading!
