Read aloud to my 7 and 9 year old. So happy to share these childhood favorites with my kids. They are even better read as an adult. This is the Year of Ramona in our house. We are 5 books in, 3 to go.

Another special book read with Addie. Ramona is fun and creative, but still finds herself in plenty of mischief. In this one, she gets a dose of annoying little sisters in the form of her friend Howie’s sister, Willa Jean. We laughed our way through this wonderful tome. Book #16 in 2019

Oh Ramona, life is so tough when you've 7. My 7 year old agrees. We had some good conversations thanks to Ramona's unfortunate situations. Ramona doesn't like that her family isn't happy; she has big feelings for a small girl and sometimes that leads her into trouble. My son and I read this a chapter a night before bed and really had a great time, when we missed a night we both were disappointed. Can't wait to start the next one.

Ramona Quimby is seven and a half and feeling like she is not receiving enough attention as her father, who has been out of work for a while, starts a new job and her mother continues to work full time. She is especially jealous that people say Beezus is "her mother's girl," but don't say this about her. She gets into some sticky situations, as usual. Ramona is looking for some reassurance and special attention from her mother, and gets what she needs just when she needs it the most.

I've said it before, but I will say it again, rereading these books as an adult, I am impressed over and over again by Cleary's ability to portray childhood experiences and the problems of blue collar families realistically. In one memorable scene, Mr. and Mrs. Quimby have a fight one evening, leaving the sisters worried about their family. Ramona still struggles with her temper, with feeling less loved and understood than her sister, and with her behavior. Those who have two working parents, financial strain, and busy families will see themselves in this story.

More adventures of Ramona. I admit, these all kind of blend together after a while… My son is enjoying them though and that’s the important thing.
