Although this is set in a fictional world, I recognize the Asian influences the author incorporated.
The topics of classism, racism, and prejudice are well-handled in this novel and I look forward to what developments come in the rest of the series.
With a slow to medium pace for the first 75% of the book, the last quarter was quick-paced and came to a satisfying conclusion for a book series.  No blood-boiling cliffhangers but the promise of more to come.  And an adorable surprise too!

Absolutely loved! It wrapped up nicely so I’m not feeling a book hangover while I patiently look for book 2 to come out on audiobook format. The characters were interesting and well developed. It was such an easy book to fall into.

Nothing wrong with it, just not really my style. It had some nice quotes in it that resonated with me, but the overall style was more tell than show which I wasn’t a fan of, and fantasy genre books just aren’t really my thing.
I might dip in and out, but I’m putting it away for now.

Overall, very cute and cozy. The world building was interesting, with well thought out magical elements.
