Autumn and Jack are struggling. Autumn knows it’s her fault, but she doesn’t know what to do about it. The pain from her childhood losses haunt her and have broken her beyond repair, she fears. As she realizes she’s pregnant and approaches Jack to tell him, he announces he’s leaving. Autumn knows she must do something fast, but her anger and bitterness over her parents’ abandonment won’t allow her to forgive. How can she hold on to her marriage and do what’s best for her child if she can’t let go of the pain of the past?
It's not great. Despite a small cast of four, everyone feels shallow and underdeveloped. The writing is rough - filled to bursting with cliches. And the emotional climax is painfully overexplained, as if this was less a short story and more an essay.

“Autumn realizes she has not come full circle but instead created a new path.”
A good short read about how our upbringing can shape and influence us, but that we have the power to make different choices.

This one hit a little bit too close to home. It's a short story focusing on forgiving and second chances.
The main character left her mother years ago, after her father left them and her mother started drinking so she was forced to take care of her and be an adult in the family instead of an adult taking care of her. She is now pregnant, feels herself slowly drifting away from her husband and at the end of the book she reconnects with her mother and decides to softly forgive her - she isn't ready to let her back into her life but she is more at peace with their relationship.
This story was only 35 pages long - which is fair since it's a part of a series of short stories about motherhood- but it felt too long and too short at the same time. It dragged a little bit and there were times where I felt myself losing interest but at the same time it felt too short and it didn't really focus on the relationship between mother and daughter enough. That could've been expanded on and it would probably make the story slightly better - as it was it was pretty forgettable and I will probably forget what it even was about by the end of the week. It was okay, nothing special but with a really interesting plot idea.

I absolutely love this author and I'm pisssssed this isn't a long story. It could have developed into something really beautiful and rich, like her other books. But, it was still great. 1 star removed to due length
Didn't expect to cry at the end
The story is hard but also hopeful, and inspirational. It shows we can and need to be our own person, and strive to do better. Like I believe Maya Angelou said - "when you know better, do better".
