This was a solid book and devoured it in one sitting - kept me up all night. Probably would be 4.5 stars for me, but I absolutely HATE the format of the epilogue - - so it knocked it down a half star. The problem with the annoying epilogue, I find, is that because it's the last thing I read, it kind of colours the rest of the reading experience.
Anyway, this was an enjoyable read. I liked that the characters were effed up in ways that were pretty extreme, but also made sense and felt human. And they were both... pretty effed up, but their edges seemed to match really well, the chemistry and pull felt honest, and I liked how it was all paced and progressed.
Spoiler
It's some years later, the actual story is over, but obviously we have to see that they ended up with an adorable kid and, of course, one more sex scene for the road so that we know that the sex hasn't gone out of the relationship. puke. Can we stop with this, please? It's the exact same in every book that has this kind of epilogue.Anyway, this was an enjoyable read. I CANNOT wait to read more in this series.
There are so many unknowns, so many questions to be answered, and (hopefully) many more stories to tell!
I loved Fern. Even her crazy, unique, and obsessive ways made me like her.
Jude... I could have junk punched him several times.
No joke. He was horrible to start with.
But, the more I read, the more I came to understand why he was the way he was.
Sometimes things were not as they first appeared and everything they thought they knew was a front, a mask.
The angst was real, the hurt was strong. But the payoff? Priceless.

4 stars
I really wanted to love this book. And the story itself is 5 stars, but the execution is 3, so I split the difference. The first 3/4ths sets up such a great, unique story. Yes Jude was terrible. Unfortunately, the ending was very abrupt. I didn’t feel their relationship actually grow. Marnie didn’t get hers. Although Jude’s apology itself was top notch, he never really ‘paid’ for what he did to Fern. The book either needed to be longer, or a duet. Also, Cory and Fern’s friendship was not examined enough. I really needed to see more from them to have any feelings about things that happened.

This book has such much wrong with it. It is an absolute **** show.
-Some bizarro corporate cult that has no real reason for being in the story with no real background but only to be there for convenience for the plot to be pushed along - making people do bad things and forcing the MCs together.
-The female MC, Fern, has no self-respect and genuinely needed help for her obsession. The fact that her friend was like, this is a little weird, and Fern was like shocked and offended about how her friend could say such a thing. SHE SPENT 2 WEEKS TRYING TO FIND THE SHAMPOO HE USES! She is such a weak character in personality and in spirit.
-Jude. To sum up Jude, he doesn't think it's cheating if he doesn't actually sleep with Fern. That says it all about how stupid he is.

WOW!!! I'm not sure my words will do this book justice. You ever read a book that transports you into a world that consumes you with the characters? Well that's this book. I loved the characters, and then the next page I'd get so mad at them I'd throw my Ipad down and walk away, then I'd run back and start reading again.
Jude is a character you will love to hate. I describe him as a beautiful disaster. He's a bad guy that every little girl wants, but by god shouldn't have. He's horrible, yet lovable. He's f&*ked up, yet you want to save him. He's every bully romance readers wet dream.
The heroine you can't help but fall in love with. She is not your typical heroine, shes quiet, has some odd habits/quirks. I LOVED HER!!! I loved seeing a heroine who was not your typical personality.
This is book 1 in the Nightingale Series and I can't wait for more. Ella has once again proven to me why she is a one click wonder for me!!

Downgrading to 1 star because upon reflection, I didn't really like anything about this book.
Original review:
I think my brain shriveled and died after reading this.
The story, the characters, the plot, everything made zero sense.
We have here a doormat heroine that's obsessed with the hero that doesn't really have any appealing qualities (he left no impression on me and I wouldn't be able to differentiate him from all the plain, forgettable, asshole-ish, bully, cool/hot/popular-wannabe characters that I've read of before). They had NO chemistry, no good relationship build up, no romance. I honestly did not care if they ended up together or not in the end because I was not at all invested.
Contrary to what the book title says, I've felt no love here, evil or not. The overall premise was just really...stupid. The secret society thing that I'm still so utterly confused of made the story even worse. UGH. I was really hoping that this would be angst-filled that has mystery / romantic elements to it, which is what the blurb hints on, but I regrettably did not find any of those here.
I just feel like Ms. Fields is capable of so much more than this; I have yet to find a book of hers that I love since all of the ones that I've read I've had issues with, but I've seen some of the poems that she's written and they're wonderful. I also love all the covers of her books but for me, her stories just fall short. I hope that the next one that I'll read would be much better than this. This ended up as another dispapointing book for me.

Wow! *bows low* All hail the Queen of Angst. This book, wow. Had me cursing so much. The characters Jude and Fern are so well written, you can see them in your mind's eye. It's like watching a movie as you're reading. Their chemistry is off the charts, the phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover" fits them so well. Jude is this sexy, brooding, mysterious neighbor. Fern is the one nobody sees. Until Jude sees her. Everything changes then. At times not for the better. This story has it all. That high school vibe, the bully romance, secret societies, hate to love.Jude is downright vile at times. Has you wanting to throw your Kindle. My only question is? When is the next book in the series?
Ella Fields constantly gives us unique stories full of angst, anger, lust, and love. The emotions she conjures within us, both good and bad, are intense enough to make us scream. Tears, swooning, heart clenching, stomach roiling, and kindle throwing are all expected side effects of her novels, and they're all guaranteed reactions to Evil Love.
Fern and Jude's romance is pretty unconventional, and if you're not a fan of complicated romantic connections, this probably isn't the book for you. Nothing about this story goes the way anyone would want their love story to unfold. It begins with lust and obsession, but also, hate, humiliation, and cruelty.
I kind of love that Fern is damn near a stalker when the book begins. Everyone knows how much I love those obsessive little freaks. Fern is more a lovesick, Jude fangirl than psycho though even if her mini closet shrine would suggest otherwise. Some will call her a doormat, but all I could see was a sweet, slightly crazy, naive teenage girl that wanted something with her whole heart. Jude takes advantage of that, but that's obviously less about shattering her heart than making sure she'll let go of his.
If you're a fan of assholes, Jude's the guy for you, but he still may test your patience. I love that Ella never shies away from making her characters do abhorrent things. She always trusts that we'll see their heart and feel their love in the end. It tends to make her books more exciting for me, because I don't feel like anything is off the table.
I appreciated the personal character development and healing in this one alongside the romance. A good portion of the book was spent with the characters healing from their own personal traumas, and though I know there will be some that wish that wasn't the case, I believe it allowed Fern and Jude to love each other and themselves the way they both deserved. It also allowed them to deepen the familial relationships they had left and make sense of their world and their actions and feelings.
Evil Love set up the Nightingale series perfectly, and I can't wait to read Silas and Coraline's story. If it's not next, I'll be surprised. Ella gave us a taste of their heartache, and now I want to experience it all. Secret societies are always intriguing to me, and I'm ready to delve more into that aspect of things as well.
If you're a fan of enemies to lovers, bully romance, asshole heroes, quirky heroines, secret societies, and twisted love stories, this one's for you!
