First read 2013

Second read Dec 2021

I remembered bits and pieces of this one, especially my feelings towards Sam who I liked but really wanted to get out of Adam’s way. I loved Stefan in this and I love how this series never lets you forget how dangerous vampires are, even the nice ones. Plus our first intro to Wulfe, that crazy mofo. I love him!

This book for me was really gritty, scary as a hell and a great introduction to vampire politics and werewolf interactions with them, and the strange world in which we find all of them along with Fae, Demons and Vampire Demon inhabits... which is just scary to be honest.

The dynamic between Stefan and Mercy is sorted through, we are introduced a little to Wulfe, a very old vampire, and the Mistress of the Seethe, Marsilia... all very scary and good!

I adore Stefan, and seeing him struggle and need help is heartbreaking. But Mercy is here! And things always seem to work their way out, one way or the other, when she's involved. Chaos that she is. :)
