this was way too long with a way too big cast
Not my favorite but worth it for the end connection back to the Dark Tower. Always love the links to that story.

Just not my cup of tea because i found it really boring despite the insane character arcs and flawless writing style.
I think the concept is good but I felt that the book just dragged on and didn’t need to be 700 pages :(

8.6/10. This is a great book. Not Stephen King's greatest, the bar is too high, but solidly in the second tier. In my opinion, this book is a commentary on manipulation and division that seems very relevant today. One of the things that really stood out is how the "Needful Things" that the characters were manipulated with changed over the course of the book. When they finally saw the item for what it was they were left emptiness and loss. From a practical standpoint, this book makes me value and open mind and question long held belief and stay away from certainty. I'm still processing the meaning of this book and may come back at some point and add to this review. I highly recommend this book!

I highly enjoyed this book! Of course, I am a huge Stephen King fan when Stephen King is at his best- writing stories about people who could be your next door neighbor. And about things that happen to all of us, especially our great weaknesses as humans. In the case of Needful Things, the weakness is greed. "What's the one thing in all the world, the one useless thing, that you want so badly that you get it mixed up with needing it?" asks one of the characters. Isn't there an ocean's worth of truth there? Aside from the metaphorical, the story has humor as well as the angst. I don't know if I was supposed to find some of it exaggerated to the point of caricature but I did and liked it. The novel was incredibly long- 802 pages! Perhaps it could have been shorter. Still, I enjoyed it all, guilty pleasure that it was. Hmmm... something I didn't need, but definitely wanted...
Classic King here. I quickly found characters I enjoyed and cared about as well as some hateable 'bad guys' including the antagonist puppeteer behind it all. The reader can see all the inevitable terror happening before our main protagonist Alan and it was thrilling to experience this book as it played out. I'd say it's one to read for King fans!
