This book was insane from start to finish, an absolute must read!
This book really drew me in with the storyline at the beginning. Who (or what) was the owner of the new shop in Castle Hill? What was he really selling? Two thirds into the story it became a really tedious read. There were too many characters and I didn't feel drawn to any of them. The story started to get too repetitive. By the end of the book I was skimming the chapters to finally get to the end. This is definitely not one of King's best works.

Long-winded as King books can be, but the payoff was worth in a sense. Not as good as It. People still acted absolutely bonkers by the end.

People milled on the sidewalks, gazing in shop windows, and waving hello to their friends and neighbors. It was a quaint little town. The sun was shining; a perfect spring day… this town was flourishing, but something bad was lurking.
Needful Things is a horror novel following a small town, Castle Rock, and all of its inhabitants. A new shop in town has opened and people are curious and excited to see what it has in store. It’s an unusual store and inside is an unusual man.
I read this book to fulfill the PopSugar prompt for “a book published the year you were born” and I’m a Stephen King fan, so I was excited to read it. I will say though, this book did not age well and is one reason for my low rating. The other reason for my low rating is the horror element of this book doesn’t really start until 300 pages in and that’s a lot of reading to do before anything starts to unfold. There are a ton of characters to keep track of as well so it was hard to keep focused.
A cool concept, but not my favorite King book.
