reading this made me feel alive in an incredible way. i was thrilled and shocked and delighted. i was scandalized and disgusted and completely captivated by how far it went and how the tension kept building and cresting again. a completely evil antagonist with no pretenses psychologically torturing an entire town. steve king fully committing to the study and satire of stereotypical american small town communities. mostly straightforward!

this book also has the worst fucking ending i‰ЫЄve ever encountered in a book - it‰ЫЄs just completely nonsensical and i don‰ЫЄt know how no one stepped in to stop it. but it‰ЫЄs really a 5 star book until the last half chapter.

This book was a lot. As always, SK amazed me with his story telling and intense world building. This was not a happy book, but most of his works rarely are. It was intense and devastating at times. I enjoyed it for the plot and the story. Norris is my hero.

The majority of Needful Things is absolutely brilliant, with a great build in tension stemming from intensifying small town grudges and a subtle mastermind villain. I only wish that the ending hadn't been the unfulfilling deus-ex-machina that it was. I'd still give it a read though, considering that, bar 11 pages of disappointment at the end, it's a damn near perfect supernatural thriller.

Al estilo de El hombre que corrompió una ciudad, pero pasado por la picadora oscura del maestro King, un extraño llega a una ciudad y a pesar de la agradable fachada de amabilidad y urbanidad de la gente, en cuanto rasca un poco consigue hacer salir los bajos instintos que la sociedad siempre, siempre acumula bajo la superficie.
Un comerciante abre una tienda en un pueblo pequeño, y vende cosas absolutamente maravillosas, por las cuales solo pide una pequeña cantidad de dinero y un pequeño favor, a todas luces inofensivo. A medida que avanza la trama vemos que los favores que pide a los habitantes del pueblo son parte de un plan malvado, diabólico, para sembrar el más absoluto de los caos.
Me encantó la novela, y mira que suelo desesperarme con King cuando creo que abusa del gatillo fácil de lo sobrenatural sin que sea estrictamente necesario. Pero aquí lo borda. Me encantó la novela.
