(4.5). This was such a great small town horror book and I loved seeing the dynamics of the people in the town. I particularly enjoyed the last two pages, and the characters as a whole. I'd say this might be my second favorite King book, right up there with 11/22/63 and just below Misery.
Highly recommend.

I love this book. It is the second King novel I read, and after reading a few more it is still one of my favourites. The story is just so well-written and it shows how well King can weave all these different stories and people together in a story that works so damn well. What I also love is that the story constantly kept me uneasy and on edge, and I had no idea how it would end until the very last pages.

Omg I’m FINALLY finished. This was interesting...but WAAAAAAY too long. By the end I kind of hated it and couldn’t wait for it to end.

This book was great, it's like I fell in love with King's writing again. The last few I read were alright, without being amazing. But Needful Things was incredible, all the build-up, the characters, the setting.. I didn't enjoy Dark Half much, but I was really happy to be back with Alan Pangborn; this guy is a real treat.
Only downfall is the ending. I found it rather weak compared to the rest of the novel. That's why it's only 4 stars for me. Again, not sure how it should have ended, but I was expecting more. A bit like Under the Dome, the ending makes sense, but after all the build-up, it's kinda weak.
Anyway, I did feel like Needful Things and Under the Dome have quite a bit in common; and I loved them both.
A great novel from the King, glad there are still some amazing ones I haven't read.

3.5

While I think that many of the characters could have been combined in order to leave more time for compelling story arcs the story itself was brilliant. It was incredibly sad even at the end, but still hopeful. Alan and Polly are great and so is my boy Norris (I love Norris more than anything). The neighbour disputes really hit close to home cos I've seen this type of behaviour in my work a million times. Definitely my second fave of Kings so far.

Yep, this is exactly what I expected from a Stephen King book. Creepy as hell and freaked me the hell out. The idea that simple human nature can drive people to do and become evil is one of the things that gives me the heeby jeebies and Needful Things packs all of that into a long but engrossing story. The pacing is excellent and the creepiness just simmers and thrums through the entire book. I'm glad that I finally read this one, but I won't be reading another story like this one for a while. I'll need to refortify myself before I can peek into the dark corners again.

I think this one falls somewhere between 4-4.5 stars. I need a little time to digest it.

This book is chunky but it did not feel chunky, it read so fast. I loved the way the dozens of different POVs gave insight into all the different town people, their histories, their quirks, their obsessions. When the shit hit the fan my heart rate went up and stayed up for the last few hundred pages. It was a tale full of horror and heartbreak, about the best and worst in mankind, and it reminded me how much I love King’s writing.
