Prima metà: 4 stelline
Seconda metà: 2.5 stelline
Prolisso.
A Castle Rock ora bisogna tenersi stretti l'anima...
Ho adorato la prima parte: idea davvero geniale, atmosfera inquietante, una sottile rete di inganni e dei personaggi niente male. Perfetto no?

Needful things is a morality tale and probably as close as Stephen King has come to religion for me so far. Leland Gaunt is new in town and he's opened a rather interesting store, where he seems to have something for everyone. But the things that we want, that we think we need are not always what we think they are ... are they? They are things like that wonderful drug that makes us feel invincible, even as it's dragging us by the ankles into the crawlspace beneath Hell itself, or that sexy looking mate who turns out to me Hannibal Lecter or Medusa.
These people pay a price for their "Needful Things" that seems like a bargain price at the time, but ends up being quite frightful in retrospect ... for those who are still around for any retrospect. Once again King tells us something about ourselves that we might not, no DEFINITELY DON'T want to know.
This book is summed up in one line from within ...
“Everyone loves something for nothing ... even if it costs everything.”

This was my first Stephen King read and it was pretty good! Interesting, sort of scary, although the dialogue was a little corny. Overall a good introduction.
After reading [a:Stephen King|3389|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1362814142p2/3389.jpg]'s [b:Under the Dome|6320534|Under the Dome|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1511289992s/6320534.jpg|6760952] earlier this year, I was definitely intrigued and wanted to see what some of his other novels were like. [b:Needful Things|28419239|Needful Things|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1451607061s/28419239.jpg|1812101], which I shall now refer to as "Materialism & Murder," seemed like an interesting choice. A new antique shop, called Needful Things, opens up in Castle Rock and, amazingly, this incredible place seems to have exactly what your heart desires! What's the catch you might ask? Well payment comes part in monetary form and the other part in the form of a favor(s). The premise was really interesting and it hooked me from the start. There are a TON of characters in this novel, so you really need to pay attention to keep everyone straight. Most of the time I was extremely engaged and curious to see what was going to happen or how this new chain of events was going to play out. There were certain spots, sprinkled throughout the book, that seemed to drag or didn't really drive the story forward. Having said that, the plot really builds until it finally hits a fever pitch and all hell breaks loose. I thought the ending was well done (I do wish there was an epilogue so I could find out what happened to some of the characters). Very enjoyable, extremely creepy and terrifyingly horrific (because of what people will do to get their "Needful Thing"). I'm far from a prude, but the language in this was a little over the top at times - just a warning for any readers that are sensitive to that.
This is the first Stephen King book I’ve ever read and I really enjoyed it! It does take quite a bit of time before the creepiness comes into the story, as the first part is mainly world and character building. But because this was so well done, when the creepiness and horror came into it, I found myself truly caring about and rooting for the characters. I would definitely be interested in reading more Stephen King in the future!
This book was GENIUS, the writing was MARVELOUS and the story ever so CAPTIVATING.
The book is on the longer side (and took a while to read) but was definitely worth it. The story was so well thought out and whilst I was reading there were many moments of 'small epiphanies' and shocks that it only made me to keep reading. Every character was so fleshed but my favourite, by far, has to be sheriff Alan Pangborn. Was so invested in his story, character development and his relationship with Polly. Besides, Mr Lelant Gaunt was THE perfect villain with the vail of mystery surrounding him which was slowly but steadily being uncovered.
Loved this book! This seems to be by far one of the most underrated SK books since I don't hear a lot of people talking about this book. Any recommendations for other SK books?

Needful things is one of the biggest books I've read.
A new shop opens up in the town of castle rock, and with it brings confusion and destruction. The townsfolk go in to Needful Things and see things that they "need" to have. There are no prices on anything but for a bargain price and a little prank it can be theirs!
Mr Gaunt is a freaky SOB and it's quite what he makes himself out to be.
There are so many characters in this story that sometimes I got a little lost in who bought what and who was pranking who, but it didn't take away from the craziness of what was going on.
Sheriff Alan Pangborn is sure that Mr Gaunt is up to something, and I'll say I was rooting for him and Polly from the start. One thing about King though is that you can't be sure characters you like will make it to the end of the story, and with a good few characters to either love or hate, I always felt a little on edge when I was reading certain sections.
It is quite a slow burner to begin with but stick with it, it's worth it.
