Emotionally devastated. This encapsulates much of what I love about historical fiction. It provided such an emotional view of the Vietnam War and the experiences of the veterans. It was so interesting to see how many events that shaped society occurred during this time. I think Kristin Hannah did such a good job of portraying the generational differences and this topic. I loved that it was focused on the perspectives of women. I always appreciate that Hannah’s books show a realistic view of what a “happy ending” can be in real life with the hurts and triumphs that come from a life lived.
