I’m conflicted. The writing is great, and I love the author… but this was a terrible story. That’s probably the point, but it was just blow after blow after blow. The first 30% was a lot of nothing, slow burning, filler. At some point I was so annoyed with Frankie’s nonstop self-sabotage and also her piss poor choices. That said, I know it’s meant to make you feel how she felt and how others were not equipped with the right tools to help. I can’t imagine living during such a time, especially as a woman in her position. It’s a good read for those that love historical fiction and hate happiness.
