Great character development with a slow start but pleasantly surprising unexpected ending. Great book to teach that romantic love isn’t always forever, but relationships can stay and evolve over time.

Cuuuuute! This is a lovely middle grade novel captured in emails between Bett and Avery, with occasional messages to and from their dads and other characters. It was delightful to see the two girls fall into a friendship and draw others into their orbit to create a new and sometimes-rocky but loving chosen family. 

I found myself wanting more insight into the dads and their experiences -- they didn't feel fully fleshed out to me -- but perhaps just because I'm closer in age to them than the daughters!

So much love for this wonderful middle grade charmer.

I feel like it gets so many things right:
• believable, gradual development of Bett and Avery’s enemies to friends relationship
• Avery’s anxiety
• main characters who are quirky and complex with strong personalities without ever feeling over the top
• well drawn secondary characters
• oh so satisfying parent trap vibes and summer camp feels
• celebration of found family and the many beauties diversity brings to our relationships 

Feel-good with depth. A new favourite. Also, SO good on audio, with a full cast of dynamite narrators.
