finished it an hour ago and already forgotten most of it - good vibes though.
The main characters are quirky and thereā€™s so much ā€œnot like other girlsā€ energy and the author used a lot of misogynistic ideas and outdated ideas. Very ā€œof itā€™s timeā€ (2015).  *the version I read has had transphobic and homophobic language edited out -  donā€™t read any editions of this book!*
The fmc is 26 but reads as 17 and the mmc would probably do better as a bumbling early 20s rather than a nearly 30 year old who doesnā€™t communicate effectively. Most of it read like a YA with swearing.

3 teasing stars

There's a LOT OF TEASING in this book. Like...a lot. Maybe too much? And it's also the kinda immature, childish teasing. Not the funny, sexy bickering. But that's the characters in this book. So I guess it goes in context.

This book is kinda similar to [b:Lingus|18894968|Lingus|Mariana Zapata|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1394360189l/18894968._SY75_.jpg|19047610] in terms of the language used and the relationship developed (both having very immediate friendships blossom that don't wait till the very end to progress into something more).

Sacha is a cool dude. I liked that Gaby was kind of a tom boy.

One thing I would like to stress though regarding a particular storyline:
Spoiler Gabby's boob job. I would have loved it a lot more as a plot thread, if she just had the surgery done, no reason other than she wanted to. Cosmetic surgery has a stigma that shouldn't be perpetuated- it's not for everyone, but if someone chooses to do it, there's nothing wrong with it. I felt like MZ tried to take this position but back-tracked halfway.

As always Mariana Zapata does it for me. I love how she beings these very specific characters to life that feel so real. authentic and complex. All her characters feel like they are while very loveableā€¦.kind of difficult at times. Itā€™s hard to describe but she manages to make me understand why this specific love interest is the one and why these specific side character like/dislike the protagonist(s). The only reason why this wasnt a complete five star rating is because i caught myself e aware of reading at times due to the authors specific writing style (miss maā€™am LOVES her relative clauses). I can see why people could have a problem with that but at this point it is 100% her style of writing and I still eat it up. And at this point in my Mariana Zapata journey, iā€™ve gotten used to it.
All in all, loved it!!! 4.75āļøāļøāļøāļø (but really I am just being very stingy with my five star reads)

I was close to DNF ing this book but persevered, it wasnā€™t great to say the least. I love some of Mariana Zapatas work but this was a train wreck.

The misogyny for a start was horrendous, the way they all spoke about women was bad. Disappointing to have a female main character who speaks awful about other women. There was homophobic and transphobic comments and ā€œjokesā€ made by the characters that were just not okay at all.

The main female character was so problematic, taking ā€œIā€™m not like other girlsā€ to the extreme.

I did like the idea of Gaby going on tour with her brothers band and having a rockstar romance etc, the idea was there and sounded good but the execution was poor.

Super disappointing because I truly loved ā€˜When Gracie met the Grumpā€™ ā€˜From Lukov with Loveā€™ ā€˜All Rhodes Lead Hereā€ ā€˜The Wall of Winnipeg and Meā€™.
