Waris Dirie's memoir takes you from the adventures of the desert in her childhood to her bustling city life of London & New York.

Her bravery to seize so many opportunities is truly inspiring, however the trauma she faced as a young girl is constantly reminded to the reader. She shows resilience at every point in her life and for myself she defeated the stereotype of a young nomad.

In the later years, Waris uses her platform to reach out against FGM to young girls and raise awareness to the ever increasing suffering of Female Genital Mutilation both in Africa, and the spread of this practice to the Western world.
