Creepy but not in a good way. Too out there for me.

Heavy on explanation and exposition, but ultimately riveting, bizarre, and unlike anything else I’ve ever read.

Not for the faint of heart, the horror and gore verge on traumatic, but they are always used with power and intention. It has something of a heist movie and something of American Gods. Four stars because there were too many sections where the characters sat around explaining things to each other, but happily the dialogue is snappy enough that those sections don’t drag. Overall, I’d put it near the top of my new reads for this year, both in creativity and writing.

Trigger warnings: sexual assault, murder, general violence.

This was the weirdest book I ever read and I have to give 5 stars just for that reason. It would be an excellent book club book- there’s so much to analyze.

It’s like really out-there, and I so very much enjoy out-there. Is this the funniest book ever written?? Maybe. Probably not, though. but there was a run in the middle that had me rolling for about 100 pages. Humor is subjective, but this really got me. Everything is funnier at 3:00am, too.

It was surreal finishing this book as the sun rose.

It checked a lot of boxes for me. Oftentimes, a truly malicious antagonist doesn’t get their well-deserved end. Or if they do, it’s not described in sufficient detail. This book scratched that itch and a WHOLE LOT MORE. I am so grateful for this because WOW, was it deserved.

I also love when a scheme is hidden from the reader, when you’re left guessing at clues while the story unfolds. It’s a whole lot of fun (for me, anyway).

Divine vengeance, ethereal horror, wicked comedy—it all did it for me.

Very good fun. Interesting concept in terms of powers and internal siblings rivalry. I really enjoyed how the relationship between the POV characters worked for the reader - one character with a plot that she can't even think about, one being forced into executing that plot without knowing what it is, and one trying to figure it out. When you add in all the shifting/hidden motives, it basically just made everything chaotic in an incredibly fun way.

I felt like some of the minor characters needed development though. There were siblings where I wasn't really ever sure what their catalog was.
