It was such a struggle reading this due to my reading level, but it’s so powerful and so heart breaking as a young woman to return to and reread after studying it in school. Its rare I like books written by men about women and I know Thomas Hardy is a grey area, but Tess is one of my favourite labours of love.

Beautifully written, but Alec D’Urberville’s character made me so uncomfortable and disgusted that I cannot rate this any higher.
