Best of the series, which in practice means it's acceptable Black Library adventure fiction but fairly disposable. Full review: https://fakegeekboy.wordpress.com/2012/05/21/super-secret-chaos-club-no-girls-allowed/

A diverse cast of characters, graphic and sometimes emotional deaths, and a brutal battle for a far away planet. The book was hard to put down . It read fast and though the “villains” are the main characters. You still live to see them win. And the ending is unpredictable to the very end.

Whew. What a journey! It is really hard not to pity an imperial guard army pitted against chaos space marines. Even with the help of the Martian priesthood, they are goddamn space marines with daemonic powers and this book practically shows why.

I especially like the portrayal of word bearers as somewhat relatable in their madness. And whole deal with Gehemehnet was super awesome (as well as how pathetic can Adeptus Mechanicus can be when they are out of their league)

All in all this was a superb beginning of a trilogy . Anxiously awaiting to start the next book.

Darker than usual Warhammer 40K novel, following a group of Chaos Space Marines as they try to recover an alien artefact.

First book in a trilogy. Lots of fighting as the Word Bearers legion have to take an imperial planet to get to the secrets buried beneath it.

Interesting characters, from people living on the planet, the legion and the Imperial forces arrayed against them.
