The ending is really the only thing that is keeping me from giving it 5 stars. It's an excellent, fully fleshed out sequel to The Gunslinger and The Drawing of The Three. My favorite characters were all developed and given a lot more page time, the pace was deliberate and fast enough to keep me turning page after page.

I am trapped in the World That Has Moved On, as sure as Eddie and Suzannah are, drawn towards The Dark Tower.

Simply sensational!

This series has hit it's stride in such a fantastic way. I've heard plenty of people say that The Dark Tower doesn't really get going until The Waste Lands, and while I refuse to knock the brilliance of the first two, I can't deny that this was a thrill ride from start to finish.

The pace crashed to a halt by the time I reached book two (the journey to Lud) but that was purely a result of the of the adrenaline rush book one closed on. King wasted no time building it all back up again after allowing the characters a brief moment of reprieve.

It pains me to have to put this series down for the time being, especially considering where this one ended, but for the sake of clarity and enrichment, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

The Waste Lands is another example of King's spectacularity, separated into two clear parts, it manages to captivate the reader from the beginning, posing more enigmas of Ronald's world and leaving me with a very marked internal thought of Ronald "But deep down, he doesn't would know if he could really keep his promise". The second half once again introduces us to new and great characters with a completely incredible ending that leaves us wanting to continue on this journey towards the Dark Tower.

Although a little slow moving, things overall get more interesting than in the previous book in the series. I still haven't quite got to grips with the story or setting(s), but I'm slowly getting there - meaning I'm getting more ready to accept it for what it is and less inclined to look for a "rational" explanation of where/when/how.

Smart move, btw, to end it with a cliffhanger. ;)
