I love the ambiguity of the time, the place, the final outcome. At times during the book, I groaned about it feeling a bit contrived, but then it redeemed itself. So I ended up really enjoying it.

Anche se il libro non è molto lungo ci ho messo un po' a finirlo. All'inizio ho fatto un po' fatica perchè Anna Blume ti immerge nella sua realtà senza nessun preambolo; giustamente lei sta scrivendo una lettera quindi il contesto va intuito un po' alla volta. Però superato il primo impatto in cui si viene catapultati in un luogo totalmente devastato e apocalittico che ha squarciato dall'interno le persone tentando di intaccarne l'umanità, non sono riuscita a smettere di leggerlo.
Tonight, you look under your bed, and lo and behold, you find a monster! And you're immediately eaten. Now, if you hadn't looked for the monster, you wouldn't have found it and you'd still be happy in your bed, instead of being slowly digested in the stomach sac of the creature. But, with any luck, your sister or your brothers might have heard your screams, and your endeavor will serve as a valuable lesson to them.

ne baš tipičan primjerak austerovog opusa, ali jednako napeto, realistično (makar je u pitanju pismo koja anna blume piše iz apokaliptičnog svijeta, svijeta u kojem je čovječanstvo pred svojih krahom, materijalnim, moralnim i duhovnim), tečno i samouvjereno. izuzetno volim austera, njegova djela predstavljaju mi užitak svim osjetilima pa možda nisam posve objektivna... ali našla sam se na paulovoj valnoj duljini i čitanje svakog njegovog djela predstavlja mi savršenu avanturu.
