A security robot hired to help an exploratory team on another planet hacked itself to be self-aware. Calling itself Murderbot, we watch as it struggles with existential dread and decides whether it really cares about the humans it's supposed to protect.

I haven't figured it out yet, but for some reason Murderbot presents as female in my mind. This was probably on purpose - you can easily project yourself into the character because it's so ambiguous.

This was a very fun, quick novella.

I have a feeling that I am going to love this series. Short and sweet but a continuation series. Sci-fi makes me happy so I’m excited to see where this series takes me.

A short, really fun read. Murderbot is such a likeable main character, and the writing style is so easy to fall into

I needed a palette cleanser, and took a punt on this. I'm glad I did, as it was great fun.

I thought it balanced the action and comedy aspects really well - it felt like grim humour in a serious situation, rather than one detracting from the other.

A very quick and fun read. Not a ton of character development outside of the POV character, but that is more of a feature than a bug given the way the short novella is structured. It really did a lot with the short length with world building baked right into the fast moving plot.
