»It didn't come from the Government down. There was no dictum, no declaration, no censorship, to start with, no! Technology, mass exploitation, and minority pressure carried the trick, thank God.«

Published in the 1950s, the messages and warnings in this book still ring true today: the dangers of censorship, the destructive influence of mass media on our ability to think criticically, and the resiliency of human knowledge and connection. When I first read this in high school, the takeaway was very abstract. I'm glad I read it again.

read it for school. it was meh. nothing groundbreaking, i like bradburys works, i just don’t like extrinsic motivation and that’s what made reading this book a bludge

I’ve wanted to read this book for most my adult life. Had a vintage copy on my shelf but never wanted to ruin it. Finally went out and bought a 60th anniversary copy and read Fahrenheit 451.
I knew the basic premise however, I didn’t realize this was deeper then that. The “Intellectual Holocaust” as it was put. Lended to Bradbury’s vision of the future and how literature was a vital part to our society.
This is a cautionary tale that still resonates today. I put it in the realm of “1984” and many others. It’s a warning of things to come if we as a society are not careful.
