It was pretty cute and I liked the magical elements - almost but not quite magical realism. I do wish there had been more insight into Marnie’s internal processing of events and relationships, which should have been easy to do with first person narration. It really felt like something was missing because it wasn’t clear how she had come to view things a certain way. She also gets too big a pass for some poor decisions that she knowingly makes.

Overall a charming comfort read. But within that there were a lot of ups and downs. Bits that I loved, that opened up into a whole different deeper book and then bits that felt borrowed (lobsters from Annie Hall which would have been fine, if it had been acknowledged) and characters whose motivations and behaviors were inconsistent at best (the story told me that the ex-husband had been wonderful but it was impossible to picture). But there was definitely something there -the specific Brooklyn feeling, the egg poem.

I loved this book even though i don’t like romances. At her engagement party, Marnie meets her fiancee’s great-aunt Blix, an eccentric elderly woman who tells Marnie she is destined for a big life. The problem is that Marnie doesn’t want a big life—she wants normal and boring. The characters are wonderful!! I really wish I had an Aunt Blix in my life. Marnie’s journey is funny, sad, and very believable and i would happily read a sequel, prequel, or anything else that brought these characters back together. There are books that you hate to finish because it feels like home—this was one of those books!

Honestly I don’t even remember how this book got into my hands. I ordered it and didn’t even know what it was about but I loved the cover and that’s what always intrigues me. Thank GOD I bought this book. I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in a week and I was so sad when it was done. The only thing that kind of upset me was the ending was so vague compared to the rest of the book. I wanted so much more detail about how everything turned out. But I guess that means it had to be good because I was sucked into the story big time. Magical. Just so magical. 10/10 will recommend.

I wanted to love this. But it was just impossible. Parts of the story were interesting but it also had a lot of bad messages in it. And I’m sorry no way Marnie deserved Patrick. I hated Jeremy but he didn’t deserve how he was treated. Marnie was definitely TSTL. She made so many idiotic, nonsensical choices it was hard to root for her.

This was a very enjoyable book. A fun, light romance, just when I needed it. The Audible narrators are good!
