This book gave me major ick. I stuck it out to see how Rose got out of her situation, but found it pretty cringeworthy while reading. The “sweeties” and gaslighting were overkill for me.

I guess it’s weird to say a murder mystery is cute but I think this one is just that. The tone is self deprecating and witty. The story is interesting although I had an inkling to part of its resolution early on. All in all, it was a fun book.

I thought this was going to be another unreliable narrator that you couldn't root for but the twists that came mid-way through were unexpected and kept me guessing. Definitely enjoyed this as well as the psychological aspects it touched on.

How far would you go to keep your past hidden?
Rose knows she is psychopath. She knows she has done bad things. Now,
someone has written a book based off Rose's childhood diary. How could she have been so careless to leave her laptop behind that day? It contains all her secrets; secrets she'd rather stayed in the past.
The story is written from Rose's perspective in the first part as she befriends the author, Emily, to try to retrieve her laptop. There is something off about Emily and the way she welcomes a stranger into her life.
The novel then transitions to the alternating perspectives of Mr. B and Rose in the second part. Is Mr. B the same man Rose wrote about in her diary? The reader gets a look back at Mr. B's relationship with 13 year old Rose, while present day Rose is trying to figure out how to escape her predicament.
I really enjoyed this book and found it an easy read. I thought something was amiss in the first part so the twist at the end of part one wasn't a total shocker, but I didn't expect it to go the way it did (trying not to spoil it)! However, I did not expect part 2 to be as twisted as it was. This book has lies, deception, mind games, differing perspectives, and twists you won't see coming!

Rose Dunmore was shocked to see the author's novel, "Diary of an Octopus," being promoted at a bookshop. She wrote her diary at 13, stolen with her computer two years ago. The novel was a fictionalized version of her diary with a different ending. If her laptop journal was found, she could end up in prison. She bought a copy, relieved to see a positive conclusion, but remembered the terrible thing she documented. Rose panicked and devised a plan to retrieve her laptop at any cost, but she was not alone in playing this risky game. The dark truth about events from nine years ago emerged with twists and turns, leading to a satisfying conclusion. The author's writing style was captivating, and I highly recommend this book.
