I accidentally stayed up all night reading this, which I should have anticipated because I think that has happened to me for all her other books. I kept forgetting that I hadn’t read this one already even though I knew I would like it. I’m glad I didn’t save this for the summer like I intended, though, because I don’t know if I have time to be sobbing on the beach.

For EH books that I’ve read so far, I would rank them as:

  1. Book Lovers
  2. Beach Read
  3. People We Meet On Vacation

But for long interest, it would be Gus then Charlie and then Alex, which surprises me because I read PWM first and usually it’s hard to knock the first off the top of the list. That said, I generally much prefer dual POV romances, but I think Book Lovers and Beach Read manage without it better whereas I think PWM would be more of a contender for me if it had another POV (although it did benefit from the dual timeline).

So far my least favorite Henry book but that was inevitable with divorce talk, takes place in a fictional Michigan town that originally pissed me off but I grew to love. A little gross (lots of bodily fluids being discussed, none of the sexy ones!), but still funny. Gus was very very sweet. I’d like to thank Austin’s dad for fighting for this country so Gus had the right to take a possible insult as a compliment. Birbigs and AD references so that was fun.

It was like, fine! She’s Not Like The Other Girls, weird relationship to alcohol, extreme relationship insecurity, but also lots of good plot turns and the first third of the book had good tension between the two main characters and a lot of good writing. Then disliked the middle third. Then kind of came around to it in the last third minus them getting engaged…what was that???? Felt out of character? Or out of place in the story?
