I love Claire Kingsley's books and I'm enjoying that this series have a mystery sub-plot but at the moment, I wasn't expecting those TW. I'm reading this in the middle of my midterms and the little time I have for reading, I want to read stories that make me comfortable.
Probably will try to read this once I finish the semester.

3.5⭐️ I have realized with this author, while it is a romance there is always a mystery to solve. Marigold is the town’s sweetheart and childhood best friend of Annika. Zachary, Annika’s older brother is the town bad boy. A freak accident at his most recent job site makes him realize that he’s been in love with Marigold for years.  The timing is bad as Marigold just started dating a newcomer to town, Preston. After Marigold tries to break up with Preston, he slaps her and Zachary and the town are in high alert for Marigold.

There is a kidnapping situation, a romance and family drama. I am clueless as to how this author always ties it all in but she does. This was 3.5⭐️due to the fact that the first 50% of the book was slow.

This story is a sweet romantic suspense with a troublemaking hero, a strong woman, and a beautiful romantic ending. The plot line, filled with intriguing suspense and some red flag issues, was overall enthralling. The Squirrel Protection Squad had to be my favorite. I love the small town, enemies to lovers, and hero characters. This is a sweet read with many character antics and interesting events.

If you remember from a previous book, Zachary is one of the Haven brothers. He is such a playboy.

Marigold is a romantic at heart, and I love her character. Her continued friendship with Annika ties her to the Haven family. However, that brings in the whole sister-best-friend trope into the story.

Brielle is a new character to me. She is young and only in the barely new adult stage, and I don't know what her story has to do with Zachary and Marigold. But all is revealed in the story.

I think Zach's tragedy is very relatable. Of course, I feel bad for Zach. And who is this Preston guy?

It is very strange that we dislike the who in the suspense part of the story but not the why or the how. We have to wait for it to unfold to make up our minds. Preston's true colors and red flags start to show, and he becomes creepy.

This book gets steamy as Zachary finally becomes the hero. Its super sweet, romantic ending is perfect. Although the story reads as an interconnected standalone, it is just as good as every other story written by Claire Kingsley.
